Lake Carezza, the rainbow lake

About twenty minutes from Vigo is one of the most famous and photographed lakes in the entire Alpine arc. Nestled between the Catinaccio and the Latemar, thanks to its colors it has aroused the imagination of the Fassa people since ancient times, so much so that it earned the name of "Lech del arcaboan", the lake of the rainbow.
A legend tells the story of the beautiful little mermaid Ondina, who lived in the depths of Lake Carezza. The wizard of Masarè fell madly in love with her, he wanted to kidnap her and keep her all to himself. To do this he decided to disguise himself as a jewelry seller and, with them, create a rainbow to attract Ondina out of the water. When the siren came up to see the show, the wizard was so high that he forgot to dress up. The little mermaid recognized him and threw herself back under the surface of the lake and never showed up again. The wizard was so furious that he destroyed the rainbow and threw all the pieces into the lake. And precisely for this reason, Lake Carezza still magically shines in all the colors of the rainbow.

The lake is particularly beautiful in the evening and early morning, when the Latemar mountain range, with the green of the Carezza forest, is reflected in the crystal clear waters. A day can be organized including an excursion. Along the lake there is an easy path. In some places wooden benches have been placed where you can comfortably sit and admire the scenery.
Various routes start from the lake, such as the one towards Lago di Mezzo or the Stadlalm mountain hut, or more demanding ones towards Latemar. One of the most interesting is the path through the Latemar Labyrinth, a path that crosses the large boulders fallen from the mountain, with suggestive passages between the rocks.
Lake Carezza is a paradise for photography lovers, never equal to itself, it is unique in its kind for its colors, which include all the shades of the rainbow, becoming a favorite destination for both professional photographers and Instagram influencers throughout the year.
